The project is managed by the Sliabh Felim Community Co-operative which was established last year to support farmers undertaking agricultural improvement schemes in the Slieve Felim mountain area.

Agricultural advisor Tomás De Bhaldraithe who has been assigned to the project explains that when the current phase of work is complete the ground will be ready for grass to be sown, which will provide farmers with silage.

After six months of work, five hundred acres are now ready, and while there is a cost involved to the farmer, he or she will reap the benefits in the near future.

In the past, the farmer would have had two or three cows on this acreage, whereas in the future,

Tá me lánsásta go mbeidh sé in ann sé, seacht nó...deich bó a choinneáil ar.
