Following one of the wettest winters on record and ongoing bad weather will there be a good summer?

For those hoping for the end of the run of persistently poor weather, the bad news from the Meteorological Office is that there is more rain to come before the wet spell is broken.

Meteorologist Gerald Fleming explains that the past winter was one of the wettest on record in many parts of the country. Rainfall has been way above average,

Something like 1.5 to twice normal rainfall.

Bolivian photographer Tony Suárez is used to blue skies so in his opinion the Irish weather is,

Great for the flowers but I think it's a little depressing, it's grey weather for six months.

People out walking on Killiney Hill in Dublin agree with his viewpoint. One woman has noticed her neighbours are still heating their houses as in wintertime. Another adds,

The elderly people are all indoors, still with their fires lighting and I feel depressed with the weather.

A man declares the bad weather is,

Dreadful, depressing and off-putting to say the least of it.

With midsummer a month away, it is still too early to predict whether there will be a good summer.
