The largest aquarium in Ireland offers visitors the chance to see a wide range of marine life.
The Oceanworld Aquarium opened in Dingle, Kerry two years ago. It quickly established itself with visitors of all ages and is now one of the top ten most popular attractions in the country.
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern visited to see a new 250,000 gallon shark tank at Oceanworld, which is also home to approximately four hundred species of marine animals. This aquarium would not exist had it not been for financial aid from the European Union, as fisheries officer Kevin Flannery explains,
Without the European funding, this project I doubt very much would have ever taken off the ground.
Local economies benefit from ventures like Dingle Oceanworld. For this reason Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is in favour of dividing Ireland into regions to avail of future structural funds
