A new sub-post office opens in Templemore, County Tipperary and normal service resumes.

After 45 years service, Templemore's sub-postmaster John Ryan was dismissed from his post on 13 August 1963. The post office was transferred to the local Garda station. The termination of John Ryan’s employment led to a public protest and a nation-wide strike of sub-postmasters lasting seven weeks.

As a result of the dispute telegraphic and telephonic communications to and from Templemore were considerably affected. Local people had to travel to Thurles for postal services.

John Ryan declined an offer of reinstatement and Martin O'Shea was appointed sub-postmaster. The new sub-post office opens in his confectionery premises on Main Street Templemore. The resumption of the postal service coincides with the beginning of the Christmas rush.
