The last horse in the CIÉ delivery fleet retires.

Transport company CIÉ (Córas Iompair Éireann) is in the process of having a delivery fleet comprising entirely of motorised vehicles. The last cart horse used to transport deliveries retires.

Hamill a twelve year old gelding who was purchased at Cahirmee Horse Fair in Buttevant hauled his last load for the company today. CIÉ employees gathered to bid him farewell.

CIÉ inspector Michael Kelleher outlines how times have changed and horse-drawn transport in the city is no longer a viable option.

Horses don't get the benefit of the doubt...as far as traffic is concerned.
