An attempt to bring down a wall separating a private housing estate from the flat complex in Ballymun.

The recently constructed wall divides those who live in the corporation flats from those living in privately owned houses. Residents of the flats had previously passed through the private housing estate as a shortcut. An attempt was made to destroy the wall using a homemade explosive device.

Many people who live in the flats see it not only as a physical barrier across a shortcut but a social barrier between those who live in the corporation flats and those who live in privately owned houses.

William O'Brien who lives in the Ballymun flats says that the wall blocks a handy route to the local bus stop and for those heading to work on foot or cycling. He believes that the wall was constructed to protect the value of the private houses.
