The University of Limerick has an impressive new library thanks to the generous support of Lew and Loretta Glucksman.

The biggest campus library in the country and one of the most digitally advanced in the world has opened at the University of Limerick. The 31 million euro Glucksman library has been named after the philanthropic family of Lew and Loretta Glucksman, long time supporters of the university who have funded the new facility.

A scholar's dream for the digital age.

The design for the new library came about having researched libraries across the world. The new Glucksman Library has doubled in size features an ARC (Automated Reserve Collection) facility, a 10 metre high vault storing over half a million books which can be retrieved at the touch of a button. The library also houses the university's rare and historic collections.

Director of the Glucksman Library Gobnait O'Riordain says that the ARC was the linchpin of the storage strategy for the library where space is at a premium.

The new university facility provides a light filled space for over two thousand students.

The library is the realisation of a thirty year long dream for the Glucksman family.

Loretta Glucksman says that you can not have a true university without a first class library.
