The Circuit of Ireland Rally gets underway in Ballymena, County Antrim.
Six thousand enthusiastic spectators turned out to see the start of the 1968 Circuit of Ireland Motor Rally.
Cars have been meticulously prepared and tuned to their finest. Six hundred officials are briefed on their job for the four day event. Twenty seven Irish Motor Clubs are competing.
The stage was set for what turned out to be the most exciting circuit in its twenty year odd history.
The entire course covers 1,520 miles of Irish roads made up of 59 against the clock speed stages over two nights and four days of hard driving.
The rally, which started on 12 April, was won by British driver Roger Clark driving a Ford Escort Twin-Cam in the final stage ending in Larne on 16 April. Adrian Boyd driving a BMC Mini Cooper came in second place and Rosemary Smith finished in third position driving a Sunbeam Imp.
