The Irish Association of Brass and Military Bands hold their eighteenth national championships.

Over one thousand musicians travelled to Waterford from across Ireland to perform and compete for national titles.

For the 28 bands taking part, this was the culmination of months of work and preparation.

The performance of each band will come under the scrutiny of the adjudicator Leonard Plug from Wales, conductor of the Belfast City Youth Orchestra.

David Grant, regional Secretary of the Irish Association of Brass and Military Bands describes the hard work involved for the musicians in preparing for the competition. He explains what the adjudicator is looking for,.

He is listening for the overall tone of the band and interpretation of the music and the overall musical presentation.

A prize winners concert will take place on 21 May at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Each winning band in its own section will be performing at the concert.
