Ryan, Michael
Michael Ryan (1944 -) is a broadcaster. Born in Dublin, he spent two years as a seminarian before becoming a journalist with the 'Evening Herald'.
He joined RTÉ in 1966, reporting on 'Newsbeat' for Frank Hall. He worked on two Jacob’s award-winning programmes, the business show 'Enterprise', and the photographically-illustrated social history television series 'The Day Before Yesterday', which drew on the Father Browne collection. He lives in Wexford and was RTÉ’s South-East Correspondent for some 20 years.
Feeling that RTÉ’s regional coverage at the time was limited, he was inspired with the idea for 'Nationwide', a round-up of news, views and events from around the country which he presented for around 18 years, until his retirement in 2011.
