O'Connell School the oldest Christian Brothers school in Dublin marks its 150th anniversary.
On 9 June 1828, Daniel O’Connell laid the foundation stone of the O’Connell School in North Richmond Street, Dublin. The school museum presided over by Brother William Allen, holds a number of artefacts relating to Daniel O’Connell, including his walking stick.
The O'Connell School is an all-boys’ school founded by Edmund Ignatius Rice and the congregation of the Christian Brothers. It is the oldest and largest Christian Brothers school in Dublin and follows their tradition of teaching.
The O'Connell School principal Brother Daniel Moore attempts to keep the pupils in order in the yard. While there are some Christian Brothers teaching in the school, as with other schools around the country,
The majority now are lay teachers.
