Children in Phibsboro win their battle to retain a golf course they created along the Royal Canal.

The children of the Royal Canal Golf Club had laid out their own nine-hole golf course in a park at the Cross Guns' Bridge in Phibsboro. However, Dublin Corporation workers filled in the holes made by the children.

Fighting back, the children wrote to the City Manager and the Lord Mayor of Dublin requesting the right to play golf in the park. The 21 members of the club sent a deputation, led by Secretary of the club, 12 year old Eleanor Taggart and 11 year old captain Stephen Brennan, to the Lord Mayor J J O'Keeffe TD who listened to their request and granted them permission to continue playing.
