A fire extinguisher manufacturer demonstration aims to promote safety among householders and businesses.
The demonstration from a Dublin company who produce fire safety equipment shows people what to do in the event of a fire in their home or business.
In 1980, there were more than 18,000 house fires and 69 people were burnt to death.
Every year, scores of people are still being killed by fire.
At the fire demonstration, Chris Flood who distributes extinguishers outlines exactly what fire equipment every household should have. Homes should have a small, multi-purpose powder type fire extinguisher of a three or five pound weight capacity. Householders should also consider a fire smothering blanket.
Chris Flood says that people are becoming increasingly aware of the need for fire safety in the home. For larger premises, the need is greater and the cost is higher. In 1981, there were 387 factory fires. Chris Flood believes this figure emphasises the need for investment in fire services.
Any investment in that regard I think is well spent.
