Efforts to save the last surviving building associated with the film 'Ryan's Daughter'.

Kerry County Council hope to give a new lease of life to the last building remaining in Dingle from the film Ryan's Daughter.

The local authority is applying to the Department of Agriculture for funding for a new access road to the now derelict stone cut schoolhouse Kirrary National School. The building was specially constructed for the Oscar winning film which put Dingle in County Kerry on the tourist trail in the 1960s.

The multi-million dollar production was shot in Dingle, County Kerry. Set in 1916 it tells the story of a married woman who has an affair with a British army officer. The film was directed by David Lean and starred Robert Mitchum. A special set was constructed for the fictional Kerry village.
