Buncrana in Donegal hosts the Irish music festival Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

An estimated fifty thousand traditional Irish music fans visited the Fleadh in Buncrana County Donegal over the weekend. Despite the high turnout, it was one of the quietest Fleadh's ever.

There were over two thousand entries in the various musical competitions and the impromptu music on the streets of the town proved just as popular.

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann say the standard of this year’s music was among the highest ever.

Visitors poured into the town from around Ireland, the United States, Britain and the rest of Europe.

This was Buncrana's second year in a row hosting the festival.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, a national festival of traditional Irish music established by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, was first held in Mullingar in 1951. Over the years the Fleadh Cheoil has been held in many different towns throughout Ireland
