An Taisce looks to increase its effort to protect the environment and architectural heritage.
An Taisce was established in 1948 as a non-governmental organisation. Much of the work to date done by the organisation is carried out on a voluntary basis. An Taisce is now conducting a membership drive to raise money to employ professional staff with the aim of becoming a more effective and efficient body.
Professor William Watts, Secretary of An Taisce, is confident that the organisation can carry out successfully its commitment to preserve land and buildings throughout Ireland.
We can act as the channel through which the private citizen can express his opinions about preservation of amenity.
William Watts claims that a private individual tends not to be heard in their objections. However, he feels that if opinions are channelled into a large, prestigious organisation, then these opinions can be expressed effectively.
