The grounds of a church open as a public space dedicated to the memory of Theobald Wolfe Tone.
The grounds of St Mary's Church across the road from Jervis Street Hospital, was given to the city of Dublin by the Church of Ireland Representative Body. At a ceremony the Most Rev Dr George Otto Simms, Archbishop of Dublin, formally hands over the keys to the grounds to Lord Mayor of Dublin Eugene Timmons.
The Archbishop thanked Dublin Corporation for preserving the headstones at the site which had been an ancient cemetery before it was made a public park.

In attendance at the event were Eamon de Barra Fine Gael TD and member of the Wolfe Tone Memorial Committee; Rev George Hobson, Rector at St Mary's Church; H C Brooks, Curate; Col R G Mew; Lieut Col George Craigie; Messrs L Williams and E O'Byrne, members of the Select Vestry; Mr J J Doran, Principal Officer of the Engineering Department of Dublin Corporation; and Mr B O'Reilly Park Superintendant.
