With less than a week to go before President Kennedy arrives in Ireland preparations are well underway.
The US Ambassador, Matthew McCloskey, the Minister for Justice, Charles Haughey and Garda Commissioner Costigan arrive by helicopter at Collins Barracks in Cork. This is where President Kennedy will land when he travels by helicopter to receive the freedom of Cork the following week.
In New Ross, County Wexford, shop fronts are cleaned and painted, and paving stones are being laid. President Kennedy is due to visit New Ross to give a speech at the quayside from where his great-grandfather emigrated.
A US Air Force plane is at Dublin Airport.
