In Kilgarvan Tommy Mullins gives a rendition of his song about the adventures of a local donkey.
In Jackie Healy-Rae's bar in Kilgarvan, Tommy Mullins from Morley's Bridge performs his own composition, the plaintive 'Ballad of Donkeyote'. The song tells the tale of a black donkey foal born locally and his subsequent adventures. In homage to Don Quixote the hero of the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, the young donkey takes the name Donkeyote.
An encounter with poteen makers in the village of Sneem marks a pivotal moment in Donkeyote’s life. A taste of the first run of their illicit brew ensures the donkey yodels from that day forth.
Near the village of Ardfert, Donkeyote outwits an alien attempting to abduct him to Mars. The donkey reveals his identity to the Martian,
I'm the king of all yodelers.
Ultimately Donkeyote’s yodeling skills bring him great fame throughout Ireland. He makes appearances on both ‘The Late Late Show’ and ‘Kenny Live’. Suggestions that the yodeling jackass could be a member Dáil Éireann are rejected,
He winks saying they’ve enough donkeys there.
A ‘Nationwide’ report broadcast on 13 December 1995. The presenter is Michael Ryan.
