A new Dublin hairdressing salon is going to great lengths to ensure every day is a good hair day.

Hairdresser David Marshall is known for his exclusive salon on Dawson Street in Dublin. His latest venture, David Marshall Workshop, at the top of Grafton Street sets out to appeal to a broader client base.

While adhering to the high standards expected by David Marshall, The Workshop takes a more casual approach to hairdressing.

The 15 hairdressers working across the three floor salon are led by manageress Chantal. Rather than trying to mimic a style in a book or photography, Chantal tries to get to know a client’s personality first before tending to their hair. Frequently the most discerning clients are men,

They really are into their image, some of them know exactly what they want.

Chantal runs through the stages of the four year hairdressing apprenticeship. As an apprentice, Chantal was really keen to learn and progress, so she completed her apprenticeship in two and a half years.

Another option for the aspiring hairdresser is an intensive nine month course for a junior stylist qualification. This course costs £3,500 but the price is not prohibitive as both of David Marshall's schools are fully booked.

The training is good but you have to be into it.

Chantal enjoys the buzz of Grafton Street on a Saturday where people freely express their individualism,

They're all wearing their own kind of feeling so I just want to try compliment their hair with how they dress and feel.
