Patrick Kavanagh remembered at a weekend of literature, music and song in the poet's native Inniskeen.

Patrick Kavanagh died in 1967 and today fellow poets, writers, friends, fans and students gathered at his grave in Inniskeane cemetery to remember and honour the poet who took inspiration from this border county townland. During the ceremony his sister Josephine Markey placed a bunch of flowers on his grave. 

The junior prize went to John Duffy from St Patrick's High School in Clones, whose poem was judged to be the best of the 190 entries in that category.  

For the first time since its inception the Patrick Kavanagh poetry award was given to a woman. Cork born poet Roz Cowman who is also part time teacher, from Annestown County Waterford.
