The first edition of Patrick Kavanagh's column in the RTV Guide is presented here. The column initially began as a film criticism page but over time became an opportunity for Kavanagh to comment on whatever took his fancy.
Patrick Kavanagh began writing for the 'RTV Guide' in April 1963. The column began life as 'The Film Page'. Kavanagh had not written as a film critic since his time at 'The Standard' ended in 1949.
Topics could be as diverse as Bloomsday, "mudsummer medness" [sic] or the television weather forecast: "I have little faith in television weather men. I prefer our old country custom of looking at the butt of the wind". The column lasted until 1967.
We reproduce here Kavanagh's first edition of 'The Film Page' as published in the RTV Guide.
