David Puttnam explains how he came to produce The Killing Fields a drama about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia.

David Puttnam a four time Academy Award winner for Chariots of Fire, answers questions about his latest film The Killing Fields which has received seven Oscar nominations. The film tells the story of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia and the relationship between two journalists American Sydney Schanberg and Cambodian Dith Pran. 

David Puttnam describes how he acquired the rights to make the film despite the fact that he only made the third highest financial offer. The agent appointed be Sydney Schanberg believed that the journalist would be happiest with the results if he selected David Puttnam produce the film.
