Children visiting Santa in his Waterford winter garden grotto reminded to go to bed early on Christmas Eve.

Shops and leisure centres across Ireland are reporting an increase in the number of children visiting Santa Claus this Christmas.

Since his arrival at Waterford’s Leisure Zone, Santa has been busy meeting children and their parents, some of whom he remembers from when they were little.

Requests for presents range from mobile phones to a wooden rocking horse. Adam Cassidy says he would like a blackboard, gold Nike boots and a gold Nike football.

Santa makes a special request for all children to go to bed early on Christmas Eve because he is very busy on that particular night.

I’ll be watching and I have my elves out watching and I won’t come to their house if I see that they’re awake, I’ll bypass their house and I’ll come back later.

Santa Claus also meets four year old Séan who gives a rendition of ‘Rudolf the Rednosed Raindeer’.
