Micheál Mac Liammóir silently knocks three times on the door of the new Strand Theatre in Carrick-on-Suir to declare it open.
The 400 seat Strand Theatre in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary was built by two local brothers, Christy and Michael Butler.
The theatre was blessed by Father Michael Ryan before the opening ceremony was performed by theatre director and dramatist Micheál Mac Liammóir.
There is a long association with amateur theatre in Carrick-on-Suir and the importance of the theatre to the area was emphasised by Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann Seán Treacy.
I feel that this theatre will be most beneficial in creating a platform to develop the latent talents of the young people of these parts.
Micheál Mac Liammóir delivered the formal opening speech and commended the Butler brothers in their efforts to create a theatre for the town and its inhabitants.
He then declared Carrlck's new theatre opened,
Tá Amharclann na Trá ar oscailt, the Strand Theatre is open.
Then followed a gala opening concert, the returns from which were donated to the local Lions' Club.
