An additional 300 British soldiers arrive in Derry to take up security duties.

Troops from the First Battalion Queen’s Regiment disembark on their arrival at the Royal Navy maintenance base in Derry. The purpose of their mission is,

To take over security duties at Bogside and other strategic points in the city.

The soldiers from Linfield in Surrey,

Brought all their own equipment, jeeps, lorries and even their own bus. 

An advance party under Lieutenant Colonel Charles Millman arrived earlier that day. Another 125 troops are due to arrive in Belfast, aboard the sea ferry, bringing the total number of troops in the city from the First Battalion from the Queen's Regiment to 500.
