Once the largest music festival in Ireland, Lisdoonvarna moves from Clare to Dublin 4.

Up to twenty-five thousand people are attending this year's Lisdoonvarna festival which for the first time is being held in Dublin. The event was moved to the capital after Clare County Council refused to grant the promoters a licence for the event following local opposition.

It's twenty years since the festival took place in Lisdoonvarna and didn't go down well with locals who complained of violence, vandalism, drink and drug taking. The festival has now been revamped and restaged at the RDS in Dublin with a host of Irish acts including Christy Moore, Damien Dempsey, The Frames, David Kitt, Mundy and Luka Bloom.

Promoter Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions says

Everyone's in good form and the music's great.

Fans of the original Lisdoonvarna Festival had no problem with the new venue which proved to be a lot cleaner.

It was dirtier. There was a bigger mess.
