Launching a radio station to help celebrate the Dublin Millennium.

The new radio service starts on 16 March and will operate for six hours a day from the General Post Office (GPO) on O'Connell Street in Dublin to mark the Dublin Millennium.

At the launch of the new service Minister for Communications Ray Burke said that 'Millennium Radio' would make a valuable contribution to the Dublin Millennium celebrations for 1988.

Also at the launch, RTÉ's Director General Vincent Finn spoke about the importance of millennium radio in serving the community with new radio services coming on stream the following January.  

Commenting on the Local Radio Bill, Mr Burke said he expected the bill to be passed by the summer. There are also plans to have a new independent television channel on stream by April 1989.

Also present at the launch were Jimmy Greally, Robbie Irwin, Declan Meehan and John Clarke.
