TelePages a new phone-in computerised information service brought to you by Telecom Éireann in association with the Golden Pages.

Customers can now make a telephone call to 60-00-00 and speak to an operator who will help them to find information on commercial, leisure and recreational services. The information service is available from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm.

The new phone-in computer information service.

Project manager Noirin McCarney provides a demonstration of the new service by looking for a hotel using the database. The operator types the specific search criteria into a computer, refines the search further if required and retrieves the corresponding matching search results. The information is then relayed back to the caller at the other end of the phone.

While the service is only available in the (01) area, there are plans to bring it to a wider national audience.

Neville Galloway of the Golden Pages speaks to RTÉ News about the project and plans to offer the service to subscribers throughout the country at a local call rate. As it is currently in a trial stage, service providers are relying on customers to tell them what kinds of information and services they would like. The unique selling points of this service include the ability to search for information by locality
