January 1981 saw the last of RTÉ radio's sponsored programmes ever to be transmitted marking the end of an era spanning over 50 years.
When 2RN began back in 1926, sponsorship was required to finance the new national radio station. However, the RTÉ authority has now decided to scrap sponsorship. Leo Maguire, presenter of The Walton's programme talks about how the end of sponsorship coincides with the end of his long career.
