In 1984 Dublin's first electrified train system, DART, was opened between Bray and Howth.

On initial opening, the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) ran between Bray and Howth but has since been extended south to Greystones.

Reporter Padraic O'Ciardha travelled on the new DART service and got the reaction of some passengers.

CIE driver Mr. O'Toole talks about what it is like to drive the new train, and the comfort it offers passengers.

The new system is only partly operational at the moment because of an industrial dispute at CIE. Construction of the DART line has also been the subject of severe criticism from politicians and economists with estimated costs ranging from 76 to 113 million pounds.
