Ballad singer and GAA player Seán Ó Síocháin was born 100 years ago, on 24 March, 1914 in Cill na Martra, west Cork.
He played hurling and football and was General Secretary of the GAA from 1964 to 1979. He sang on many Radio Éireann programmes, including 'Ireland is Singing' and 'Around the Fire'.
Ó Síocháin sings a macaronic song for Gay Byrne in this extract from a special edition of 'The Late Late Show' celebrating the 50th anniversary of Irish radio. He says a macaronic song has nothing to do with macaroni cheese but is a bilingual song, in this case Irish and English.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 31 January 1976. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
