Death of Joe Murray takes place

The death has taken place of the former Head of Agricultural Programmes in RTÉ, Joe Murray.

Mr Murray was in his mid-70s and originally from outside Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

He joined RTÉ in the 1960s and took charge of agricultural programmes in 1969, succeeding the late Justin Keating who later became a Cabinet minister.

Mr Murray worked on the television programmes 'Landmark' and 'On the Land' and was involved in many radio programmes.

He retired in 2000 but returned to RTÉ the following year to help with RTÉ's coverage of the foot-and-mouth outbreak.

He is survived by his wife Toni and daughters Isobel and Susan.

The funeral mass for Joe Murray takes place in Foxrock, Dublin 18, on Saturday morning.
