Death of former Press editor

The former editor of the Irish Press, Hugh Lambert, has died following a short illness. He was 61.

Mr Lambert succeeded Tim Pat Coogan as editor of the daily in 1987 and held the post until publication ceased in 1995.

He had previously held senior editorial positions with the company's other titles, the Sunday Press and the Evening Press.

He is survived by his wife and four sons.
