The first demonstration of high definition television (HDTV) in Europe is held at the General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union in Killarney, Ireland.
At a General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Killarney Sony give a demonstration of high definition television (HDTV). The report shows a a man operating a HDTV camera another man operates a video tape machine. There is a close up of a screen showing high definition pictures.
The report says that experts are claiming that HDTV is the television of the future. Viewers will have to wait to see the sharper pictures because it is just not possible on current television sets. The Japanese have spent ten years developing HDTV and are the world leaders but it will be at least ten to fifteen years before television viewers will see the benefit.
