In the Supreme Court, lawyers have failed in their latest move to free John Gallagher who was found guilty of murdering his former girlfriend and her mother outside the grounds of Sligo General Hospital two years ago. He was declared insane at the time of the murder, but his lawyers now argue that he should be freed as he is not mentally ill.
