Will a new housing scheme at Kilmore Quay come at a cost to the charming Wexford fishing village?
The thatched buildings of Kilmore Quay in County Wexford provide the picturesque fishing village with much of its charm. Now there is a fear that the future of these famous buildings, some dating from the 19th century, is under threat.
Families that have lived in seven of the old homes are moving to a newly built 28-house scheme in the village.
It's feared that once they’ve vacated, lack of maintenance will lead to a rapid deterioration of the old thatched and whitewashed houses.
For the owners of the thatched houses, however, the lure of new homes with modern amenities is too good an opportunity to pass up.
