A young Monaghan woman has set up the first quail farm in Ireland.
Fennella Steele always wanted to start her own business, and began with poultry production after leaving school.
There was an opening in the market for quail, so I decided to start it.
Having learned a lot from her parents who work in the poultry industry, she did her research and presented a business plan to her bank manager.
With the aid of a relatively small loan she set up the business and now sells frozen packaged quail to wholesalers, retailers and restaurants around the country,
I drive around and deliver them.
Fennella Steele would encourage any young person who wants to work for themselves to take the plunge. She advises that thorough research needs to be conducted before talking to the bank.
