Youths clash with British soldiers in Derry following a Republican Easter commemoration parade.
Derry holds two Republican Easter commemoration parades. Hostilities are sparked off when the parade organised by the local National Commemoration Committee branch and the local James Connolly Republican branch disperses.
A small group of youths separate from the 2,000-strong body of marchers, dispersing at Guildhall Square and storming British troops at Shipquay Gate.
A hail of paving stones, bricks and other missiles rains down on riot-geared troops. The troops charge and fire rubber bullets. A bus is hijacked and wrecked before being used as a barricade. Several soldiers are injured, and one sustains a broken leg.
Derry second Republican parade is organised by the local Patrick Pearse Sinn Féin Cumann.
