The Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement demonstrate against the proposed Irish rugby tour of South Africa.

The Ireland England rugby international match at Lansdowne Road was used by protestors to highlight opposition to the planned Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) tour of South Africa.

Starting at Parnell Square, the demonstration, supported by over forty organisations, trade unions, politicians and rugby supporters proceedes peacefully through the city centre to the stadium.

Chairman of the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement (IAAM) Kader Asmal disputes the Garda estimate of seven hundred participants.

We would say there are six thousand people.

President Patrick Hillery and members of the government are not in attendance at today's match, and there is mounting public opposition to the IRFU plan to travel to South Africa in May.
