Ballyfermot Community Association presents its development plan to the Dublin City Manager.
Ballyfermot is a suburb situated to the south west of Dublin city. Dublin Corporation started a house building scheme there in 1948, as part of a plan to provide homes for people living in overcrowded and unsuitable housing in the city centre
At present, the area has 4,872 houses, but remains without many facilities found in urban areas of similar size around the country.
Ballyfermot Community Association commissioned Professor Geoffrey Copcutt, a town planning expert who has formerly worked with the United Nations (UN), to formulate a plan for the district.
Ballyfermot Community Association presented the plans at City Hall. Professor Geoffrey Copcutt maintains that this plan is part of an overall strategy for Ballyfermot and one which gives expression to the needs of the community.
Community spirit is present in Ballyfermot, but Professor Copcutt maintains that there is further room for development, which would enhance residents' lives.
We want to see physical and social provision extended.
