Tá Daingean Uí Chúis lán d'fhuinneamh na hóige. Oireachtas na Gaeilge celebrates the talents of young people.

Oireachtas na Gaeilge is the biggest festival of Irish culture on the island of Ireland and takes place annually at various locations throughout the country. This year Dingle (Daingean Uí Chúis) in County Kerry is the host town.

Nurturing and promoting the talents of young people has long been a central element of an tOireachtas.

Lá na nÓg starts off with a parade through the streets of Dingle with students from national schools. The marching bands showcase the next generation of musical talent.

Others like Niamh from Scoil Naomh Eirc, are here to compete at one of the day’s competitions,

Táim ag rince agus seinnim an concertina.

The school marching band from Scoil An Fhirtearaigh in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh (Ballyferriter) is performing today. Music, singing and dancing are popular extra curricular activities for pupils. As one girl explains,

Glacann scata daoine páirt ann.

Drama is also a popular category at an tOireachtas, and an event where everyone can find their niche. Donal is helping with costumes, and Adrian will be on stage in a non-speaking role,

Beidh mé i mo chrann.
