Two arrested after a Garda operation prevents an armed robbery at a post office in Cabra.
An attempted armed robbery at a post office on Fassaugh Avenue in Cabra is believed to have been planned by a well known Finglas criminal gang. The thieves were surprised by the gardaí who were waiting for them.
The raid took place at around 10:40 am when two of the gang smashed a window at the back of the post office. A third man in a tow truck blocked traffic at the front of the building.
Pensioners and staff fled the post office to the safety of a house next door. He recounts hearing an explosion, seeing armed gardaí everywhere and then,
The three girls came running in out of the post office into the house here screaming.
Two of the raiders ran through gardens to escape the gardaí, but were arrested. An eyewitness saw the two men run past, depositing their balaclavas in a bin. Gardaí are now searching for the third man who fled after detectives intercepted the gang.
It is the second time this post office has been broken into in a month. Superintendent Gabriel McIntyre reassures the public that the gardaí quickly dealt with this latest attempt. No shots were fired, and nobody was injured. He is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
