Sonia O'Sullivan wins gold in the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
On 12 August 1995 Sonia O'Sullivan won the world title in a time of 14:46.47, making her the first Irish woman to win a world championship gold medal. Commenting on her victory O'Sullivan says
It means so much to me. I'm sure it means so much to everybody in Ireland... I'm just proud and glad to have this medal in my hands right now
Chatting to Colm Murray after the race O'Sullivan talks through the final 20 seconds of the race. Sonia O'Sullivan did her lap of honour without the Irish flag saying that there were too many flags and she didn't know which one to take.
