First place in the Bord Fáilte Civic Awards goes to the Rose Garden in St Anne's Park, Raheny.
First introduced by Bord Fáilte in 1975, the Civic Awards are for projects organised by local authorities. The winner of first prize in the 1980 Civic Awards is Dublin Corporation for the Rose Garden in St Anne's Park in Raheny.
While the park is run by Dublin Corporation, the local Clontarf Horticultural Society has played a major role in developing the Rose Garden. According to one of the competition judges,
The Rose Garden here is one of the gems within this range of parks.
The garden boasts over 15,000 rose bushes. In bed number 32, there is a red rose with the name Terry O, named after the 'Evening Press' columnist Terry O'Sullivan, who died on 5 December 1980.
Runners-up in the Civic Awards are Sligo Corporation for its Cleveragh Demesne and Garavogue River development, and Cork for its Mardyke riverside development.
