Preparations are underway for Wexford Festival Opera with a performance to suit all ages.
At eleven years of age Michael Kepler Meo is the youngest performer at the Wexford Festival Opera since the 1970s. Michael started singing around the age of five when he joined the Portland Boychoir. He is currently preparing for the lead role as Charlie in The Golden Ticket, an opera based on the Roald Dahl classic 1964 book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Coincidentally, today marks Roald Dahl Day.
The Golden Ticket was first performed at the Saint Louis Opera Theatre. It is hoped that the European premiere will attract some first time opera goers to Wexford. Conductor on the show, Timothy Redmond, is hopeful that the production will receive a positive response across all age groups.
The Wexford Festival Opera opens on 16 October.
