Scout troops are put to the test as they compete for the Melvin Trophy at Larch Hill in Dublin.

From 21 - 24 August 1975, 32 teams of eight scouts compete for the Melvin Trophy, the top award of the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland, at the national camp site at Larch Hill in Tibradden, County Dublin.

The competition is open to scouts on the island of Ireland in the 11 to 13 age group. Those at Larch Hill have won their places in preliminary contests

The competition tests scouting skills such as map reading, first aid, knotting, and cooking. The teams will select events to take part in where their initiative and teamwork will count as much as their technical skills

For the second year in a row, the Melvin Trophy is won by the 37th troop from Togher in Cork city.
