Large crowd support the Miami Showband Fund at a concert in Drogheda.

The National Executive Council of the Irish Federation of Musicians and Associated Professions has opened a fund for the families and relatives of the deceased and injured members of the Miami Showband.

An open air concert at the Lourdes Stadium football ground in Drogheda, County Louth, kicks off the plans to raise money for the Miami Memorial Fund.

All the acts playing on the bill have given their services free of charge, including Skid Row, Charley Brown Band, Whiskey Southern Comfort, Strangers, Gerry Matthews, Cats Pyjamas and Guys and Dolls.

Almost 3,000 people attend the concert, for which there is no fixed admission. It is estimated that the successful event raised £500 for the dependents of the three murdered Miami members, Fran O'Toole, Brian McCoy and Tony Geraghty.
