Limerick student Patrick Collison is named the Esat BT Young Scientist of the Year.

Patrick Collison from Castletroy College took the top prize for his project CROMA, a new programming language.

The project was described by judges as

A powerful language which allows web applications to be designed intuitively and quickly.

Patrick Collison was a runner up in the competition last year and is elated to win outright this time. President Mary McAleese presented him with his prize.Lilly Collison is delighted that all the hard work her son put into the project has brought success.

The 2005 top group prize went to Frances Wasser and Michael Mulhall from Synge Street Christian Brothers. A project about shrimps by Kevin O'Reilly from Newry Christian Brothers took the runner-up individual award. The runner-up group project was won by students from Desmond College in Newcastle West, County Limerick.
