Bing Crosby arrives at Shannon Airport on his way to the Irish Derby.

American entertainer Bing Crosby arrives at Shannon Airport. His visit to Ireland is primarily for the Irish Derby at the Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare.

He is accompanied by the businessman Max Bell and his wife Agnes. Max Bell is one of the owners of Meadow Court, a favourite to win the Irish Derby. Bing Crosby has a one third stake in the horse.

Once off the runway, the pipe-smoking singer is besieged by autograph hunters. He obligingly signs some items. Bing Crosby explains the reasons behind his visit.

I've a sentimental interest in the horse because of my friendship with Mr Bell and I've always wanted to see this great race run on the great course the Curragh.
